Distracted – In The Best Way!

Why I was too distracted this week to write something new:

Theoandme2

I’m a new Mom!

His name is Theo, and he’s eleven weeks old.

Theo is a Lagotto Romagnolo – an ancient Italian breed who is the ancestor to the Standard Poodle. Lagottos are medium sized dogs – about 30 pounds full-grown – who are renowned as truffle hunters. At the current rate of $400 per pound for truffles, I may soon be rich. (Or at least he might eventually pay for himself. If I knew anything about truffles. Like whether they exist in Connecticut.)

He was conceived in Italy and his pregnant mom came over in order to have an anchor baby. Yes, he is a birthright citizen.

As of this afternoon, he weighed in at 9 pounds exactly, but that will probably be 15 pounds by tomorrow. He is eating his adorable little head off.

I am crazy in love.

So I am busy taking online Italian lessons.

I need to be able to understand him when he starts to talk.

He may tell me where the truffles are.

And – so far anyway – a very good, happy little boy.

Make sure he doesn’t sniff out your chocolate truffles; they could kill him. The fungus truffles are fine, though. And some of them, like white truffles, sell for thousands of dollars per pound! Unfortunately, you’re going to have to take him to Italy to find some. At least your Italian lessons will pay off.

    Congratulations, Nancy!

I recommend lots of exercise and tons of things he can chew on — they are cheaper than furniture.

He is gorgeous. And so damn cute that you likely won’t kill him for all the mischief he will do as a puppy!

I had a dog when I was a teenager…. I remember the chewing stage – we thought for a while he would eat the house.

Duncan — 1-1/2 yrs has been pretty good, so far.

But there is nothing like the total unconditional love of a dog. I’m happy for you and your husband.

Sweet, sweet, sweet! He is totally adorable, gorgeous, cute…….. enjoy the puppy training (tip which worked for us when ours was chewing something he shouldn’t…. we took it off him saying that was not his but this (giving him his own toy) was. He soon got the message)
    Welcome Theo!

All advice welcome! It’s been about 30 years since I have had a dog… and my husband has never had one.

Wonderful, he won’t regret it (once you get into a routine and Theo settles down), they are such brilliant company. Hubby’s training aid was a little box of cheerios breakfast cereal, as we followed the repeat, praise and reward method. Everyone and every dog is different and from my canine psychology course, I remembered that ‘A dog has to want to be with you’, so we always made sure we were more interesting than the latest sniff (with reward and praise). Looking forward to reading how you get on. Pat and tummy rub by proxy for Theo if he’s been a good boy. 🙂

He’s adorable. I second the recommendation for lots of exercise and chew toys. They keep the puppy happy and hold down the mischief. And the exercise is good for Mom and Dad too.

He’s so adorable – all we do is take pictures – but get very few good ones. We need to teach him how to pose. I tried to get him to do a selfie, but it was a total disaster.

Just spotted this today. And I knew when you got him it was for all the new material for your blogs. And I’m pleased that you will be taking Gracie’s advice on language lessons. By the way, you’ll probably never see Lillian again.

Lillian is just starting to appear. Snickers is the bravest – and good at hissing and growling. Stewie is in the middle. Tom thinks he is the smartest puppy he ever saw. I am in completely in love.

And of course, I didn’t get Theo just for blog material… in fact, it is really hard to write anything. I just want to play with the dog. Luckily I have just started to cut down my hours as I get ready to retire, so I had several days off to bond with my new baby.
