Not Quite Old Enough For This

I have accepted the fact that I am just too old for some things:

  • Miniskirts
  • Bikinis
  • Body Glitter
  • Visible bra straps
  • Polka-dot manicures
  • Bare midriffs
  • Thigh high boots
  • Pigtails (which I would never wear anyway)
  • Navel piercing (which I would SO do, if I were twenty-five again)

It is with regret that I say goodbye to many of these things.  “If you see me walking down the street, and I start to cry, each time we meet, walk on by…”  The tears are mostly for miniskirts, as the young girls walk past me in the drugstore parking lot.  My 1969 legs were unsurpassed.

But I have made a sort of peace with having outlived the body requirements for certain styles.

And it is a consolation that there are still some things for which  I AM TOO YOUNG:

Elastic Waist Pants

   Brooches

    Theme Sweaters

Quilted Satin Slippers

   Plastic Rain Hats

Pantyhose with sandals

  1. Ha! Love this post. I’m with you on the short skirts issue. Very sad about this.

  2. I have just come to the same realization on these. But I am really, really hoping that I will never be old enough for pantyhose with sandals!

  3. I must confess – I briefly contemplated pantyhose with sandals in late spring when I so wanted to wear my sandals (like Private Benjamin) but my legs were still blue-white. Luckily, I came to my senses and bought some self-tanner.

You try to make it sound like you’re “ancient”, or something. There’s nothing wrong in knowing where to wear certain things and when not too, there’s a lot of others who need lessons in that. My point is, women where short skirts, not necessarily minis, depending on your opinion of what the difference is, for almost all of their lives. So if you “had 1969 legs”, as you said, you’ve still got some smblence of them, still! Just pick your spots and let us who want too, and you who are willing too, see them!
